    • What every vocation director should know about Filipino families
      by sister myrna tordillo

One begins to understand Filipino American families by exploring where they’ve come from. The Philippines is one of only two predominantly Christian countries in Asia (the other being East Timor), and it is ranked third in the world for the largest Catholic population, according to the Pew Research Center. About eight-in-ten Filipinos (81 percent) are Catholic.
The number of Filipinos in diaspora is roughly 11 percent of the overall Philippines population. That means over 10 million Filipinos live outside of their home country, either on a regular, temporary, or irregular basis, and the U.S. is the top country of destination, followed by Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, according to 2013 figures from the Commission on Filipinos Overseas. Continue reading here
    • Pastoral Plan of Action
      the national black catholic congress

It is the hope of this Congress XIII Pastoral Plan to provide inspiration and enthusiasm in our mission to be prophetic and thrive as we follow Jesus. It brings truth to the reality that the future is not just achieved in one event but through many acts of follow-up in mission and service from committed folks. The hope and strength of the Congress movement is to inspire an increase of pastoral and missionary activity. Those who are involved give evidence that the consequences of the Congress movement lives in their bones. 4 Many folks left the Congress and were on mission immediately. We congratulate and thank them! This document yearns to connect you historically to the nature and mission of the National Black Catholic Congress movement. It also reviews the thrust and catechetical teaching of the theme from Congress XIII, based on Habakkuk, “Write the Vision: A Prophetic Call to Thrive”. It provides a plan to engage all people to join in the work of the Congress movement, even if they were not present at Congress but are faithful to the mission of Jesus. Finally, this NBCC Pastoral Plan showcases ideas and resources that abound in our Black Catholic Community and beyond to address our Mission for these times.

    • We're not self-created, but created in the image and likeness of God
      by ARCHBISHOP THOMPSON

"The Korean Catholic Community, valuing family and community over radical individualism, is a great witness and blessing to the Archdiocese of Indianapolis." (Archbishop Thompson's homily in occasion of the Laetare Sunday Mass Celebration with the Korean community in Indianapolis 3/15/2026).
The Season of Lent provides a very unique opportunity for us to face our vulnerability and mortality as human beings. Ordinarily, we have an array of distractions or means of avoiding the reality that we are not self-created and completely independent in and of ourselves. Cultural influences encourage a radical sense of individualism that causes people to create God in their own image. This is quite the opposite of the long-standing teaching of Catholic faith that each person is created in the image of God. While there is great beauty of truth and goodness in being created in God’s image, it is rather presumptive and sinful to think that God might be created in our image. The Korean Catholic Community, valuing family and community over radical individualism, is a great witness and blessing to the Archdiocese of Indianapolis. Continue reading

  • Cardinal Bo: The Pope made us feel that Myanmar is not forgotten

    • The bishops of Myanmar were in Rome for their Ad Limina visit

"Myanmar has been facing a particularly difficult situation since 2021 when a military coup sparked an ongoing civil conflict that has led to the deaths of thousands of people and more than 3 million displaced. Additionally, the country was struck by a devastating earthquake in March 2025, further exacerbating the situation."  Continue reading from VaticanNews here...
    • Take courage, I have overcome the world!
      WYD south korea 2027

Pope Francis chose John 16:33 as the theme for World Youth Day Seoul 2027. This verse, spoken by Jesus to his disciples at the Last Supper, reminds us of the irrevocable truth that despite the challenges of the world, Christ has already conquered fear, sin, and death. It is a call to hope and courage rooted in faith in the resurrection—not a passive optimism, but a bold confidence grounded in the living presence of Christ.
Young people across the globe today are confronted with a wide range of challenges, including conflicts, economic hardship, and an uncertain future. Thankfully, at WYD Seoul 2027, they can receive the joy of becoming the "salt of the earth and the light of the world." Through their encounters with one another they will experience unconditional love, thereby gaining the strength to be sent back our into the world as "pilgrims of hope" and "courageous missionaries," boldly putting into practice the joy of the Gospel they have discovered.
